**Editor’s Note:** This article reports on Clínica Diamanti’s social media response following its mention in the death of Sara Milena Echeverría Alcendra, who died after cosmetic surgery at the facility. The clinic’s full statement is excerpted; we will update as more details emerge.

Clínica Diamanti defended itself on social media after being mentioned in the case of the death of Sara Milena Echeverría Alcendra, 30, who underwent cosmetic surgery at the establishment located on Calle 81 between Carreras 45 and 46 in northern Barranquilla.
In three Instagram posts, the clinic posted what appears to be a resolution and a health badge, issued by health authorities, certifying its authorization to operate, along with a document showing its registration in the Special Registry of Health Service Providers in Colombia (REPS).

Furthermore, it explains that the authorization badge is the official notice identifying that a health service is fit to operate in accordance with the regulations in force in Colombia.
It maintains that this badge is authorized by the competent Health Secretariat for each authorized service and must be printed and placed in a visible location for users.
Regarding the REPS (Special Registry of Health Service Providers in Colombia), the clinic notes that it is an official database in which hospitals, clinics, health centers, offices, laboratories, and independent health professionals authorized to offer services are registered because they “meet the authorization conditions.”
Relatives of Sara Milena Echeverría Alcendra told Zona Cero about the cosmetic procedures the 30-year-old woman was going to undergo and the moments before and after the intervention. They stated that the surgeon in charge of the procedure was Carlos Espinoza and that they had to pay more than $65 million for a liposculpture. Complications from the procedure reportedly occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. The causes of Sara Echeverría’s death are still unknown. The relatives went to the Legal Medicine office in Barranquilla to take the body and advance all corresponding investigations into the case.
Tonight, in a press release, the clinic “regretted” the death of patient Sara Milena Echeverría Alcendra, which occurred in our facilities during a surgical procedure. “We extend our most sincere condolences, solidarity, and support to her family, partner, and loved ones in this moment of immense pain.”
It then reiterates that it is an institution that “is fully authorized by the control entities to carry out its health activities.”
The aesthetic boutique defends the qualifications of the plastic surgeon Carlos Espinoza, “whose suitability, degrees, and career are duly verified and endorsed by the competent authorities.” It defended the medical protocols of the procedure as “standardized and the current management guidelines for plastic surgery.”
The clinic warned “that any medical and surgical act, despite rigorous preparation and strict compliance with medical standards, carries intrinsic and unpredictable risks that can unfortunately lead to fatal outcomes like the one that occurred.”
Finally, the clinic declares itself open “to address any concerns or requests from family members and close friends.”
