APR has been chosen as the lead organization for MOTIE’s Semiconductor Advanced Industry Technology Development project, securing 7.6 billion KRW over four years to enhance its semiconductor R&D capabilities.
[Cosinkorea.com Reporter Gil Tae-yoon] Global beauty company APR (CEO Kim Byung-hoon) announced on the 26th that it has been selected as the lead organization for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s (MOTIE) Semiconductor Advanced Industry Technology Development project, aiming to advance its R&D capabilities for semiconductor-based beauty devices.
On the 23rd, APR held a ‘Kick-Off Meeting for the MOTIE Semiconductor Advanced Industry Technology Development Project’ on the 76th floor of Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul, sharing phased goals and project directions. Attendees included Shin Jae-woo, Head of APR’s R&D Center; Park Dong-hee, Head of APR’s Technology Lab and project lead; and representatives from participating domestic university research institutes and government-funded research organizations.
This project is expected to serve as a catalyst for APR to expand its existing beauty device productization capabilities into the semiconductor and core original technology domains. APR was selected as the lead organization for this project last month and will carry out the project over four years from 2026 to 2029, together with participating organizations. The consortium will receive total funding of 7.6 billion KRW.
The core of the project lies in securing key components and system technologies that determine the competitiveness of beauty device products. APR will also pursue research on system semiconductors, which are key technological elements determining device output stability, miniaturization, power efficiency, safety control, and user experience.
Through participation in this national project, APR plans to expand its productization capabilities accumulated in the beauty device field into semiconductor and core original technology domains. This strategy aims to reduce dependence on external components and secure a K-Beauty Tech technology platform combining semiconductors, AI, and hardware.
Future development outcomes are expected to be expandable not only to home-care devices and professional equipment but also to core module platforms for beauty devices. APR’s strategy goes beyond strengthening beauty device product competitiveness to internalizing core components and system technologies, thereby advancing the technological foundation of its beauty tech business.
Since starting its beauty device business in 2021, APR has been strengthening its related R&D capabilities. In 2022, it established the beauty device R&D organization ADC (APR Device R&D Center) to internalize original technologies and is accelerating related patent applications.
