【South Korea】Amorepacific Holdings Invests in Medical Device Company to Build Integrated Medical Aesthetic Ecosystem

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** Amorepacific’s latest investment agreement with Higher Corporation marks a strategic pivot from cosmetics to a broader dermatological platform, expanding into medical devices, skin boosters, and aftercare. This move accelerates the blurring line between beauty and medical care, signaling a new phase in the company’s growth strategy.

Investment Agreement with Higher Corporation Expands Collaboration to Medical Devices, Skin Boosters, and Aftercare
From Cosmetics to Dermatological Platform: Strategy to Blur the Line Between Beauty and Medical Care Accelerates

Amorepacific Holdings has invested in Higher Corporation, a specialized dermatological medical device company, expanding its business scope beyond cosmetics into the medical aesthetic market. This collaboration is notable as it goes beyond simple equity investment, marking the starting point for building an integrated beauty-medical ecosystem that connects medical devices, skincare, and post-procedure care.

On the 27th, Amorepacific Holdings announced it had signed an investment agreement with Higher Corporation to strengthen cooperation in the beauty and medical sectors. Founded in 2021, Higher Corporation is a specialist in dermatological medical devices, leveraging a network of medical professionals for R&D and global business expansion. Its flagship product, HILO WAVE, is driving growth in Asian markets including South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Collaboration from R&D to Hospital and Clinic Distribution

The two companies plan to combine Higher Corporation’s medical device development capabilities and global network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and medical professionals with Amorepacific’s dermatological research and skincare technology. This partnership will span the entire value chain from product planning and R&D to distribution and marketing. Furthermore, they intend to expand cooperation into areas such as skin boosters, cosmeceuticals, dermatological medical device development, post-procedure aftercare products, hospital and clinic distribution, joint research on raw materials and ingredients, and marketing.

“This will be an opportunity to combine the expertise accumulated in the medical aesthetic field with Amorepacific’s dermatological research capabilities to create next-generation beauty and medical solutions together,” said Kim In-yong, CEO of Higher Corporation.
“By developing next-generation beauty solutions that integrate dermatological science and medical device technology, we aim to provide new customer experiences in the global beauty and medical market,” said Lee Sang-mok, CEO of Amorepacific Holdings.
Beyond Cosmetics: The Shift to Skin Solution Competition

This collaboration highlights the changing competitive landscape of the global beauty industry. While the market was once driven by functional cosmetics and brand competition, there is now a rapid shift toward integrated solution competition that connects medical devices, skin procedures, regenerative materials, and post-procedure care into a single customer experience. As consumers increasingly combine in-clinic treatments with home care, cosmetic companies are strengthening efforts to secure medical device technology and medical professional networks as new growth foundations.

The core of this investment is not merely that a cosmetics company invested in a medical device firm. The more significant change is that the axis of competition in the global beauty industry is being reorganized from ‘product sales’ to ‘skin management solutions.’ Going forward, companies that can connect cosmetics, medical devices, dermatological science, digital diagnostics, and AI-based skin analysis into a single ecosystem are likely to gain a competitive advantage in the medical aesthetic market. Ultimately, the next competition in the global beauty market will likely be led not by companies that make better cosmetics, but by those that connect skin diagnosis, procedures, recovery, and daily care into a seamless experience. Amorepacific Holdings’ investment is interpreted as a strategic shift to evolve from a cosmetics company into a dermatology-based integrated solution provider in response to this industrial structural change.
