Dongkuk Pharmaceutical announced on the 24th that it is accelerating the development of the medical science-based derma cosmeceutical brand ‘Madeca Labs’ in collaboration with a dermatologist advisory panel. ‘Derma cosmeceutical’ is a compound word combining ‘derma’ (meaning skin), ‘cosmetic’ (meaning cosmetics), and ‘pharmaceutical’ (meaning pharmaceuticals), referring to skin science-specialized cosmetics.
Leveraging its R&D capabilities as a pharmaceutical company and consultations with dermatologists, Dongkuk Pharmaceutical is developing ‘Madeca Labs,’ a high-performance skincare cosmetics brand for hospitals and clinics. Madeca Labs is expected to be developed as a high-performance skincare brand addressing various skin concerns, including skin barrier, sensitive skin, post-procedure home care, and skin condition management. The target launch is the first half of next year.
To this end, Dongkuk Pharmaceutical held an inaugural ceremony for the Derma Cosmeceutical Advisory Board on June 13, consisting of five dermatologists. The advisory board includes Dr. Chunsik Yoon (Yemiwon Dermatology Clinic), Dr. Jiho Park (Oaro Dermatology Clinic), Dr. Youngwoon Park (Villad Skin Dermatology Clinic), Dr. Mihye Lee (Leewon Dermatology Clinic), and Dr. Sangyeop Kim (JFCell Dermatology Clinic).
At the inaugural ceremony, Dongkuk Pharmaceutical introduced its over 50 years of accumulated R&D capabilities in botanical ingredients and its derma cosmeceutical business strategy. The dermatologists discussed high-performance skincare solutions suitable for hospital and clinic channels from a clinical perspective. In particular, based on Dongkuk Pharmaceutical’s key centella asiatica-derived ingredient ‘TECA’ (standardized Centella asiatica extract), opinions were exchanged on skin mechanisms of action and formulation development directions.
The Derma Cosmeceutical Advisory Board will actively participate in product development processes, including regular meetings on key ingredients, full ingredient composition, formulation testing, and sensory evaluation.
Dongkuk Pharmaceutical, which has strengthened its position in the cosmetics market since launching the derma cosmetic brand ‘Centellian24’ in 2015, is continuously expanding its product lineup for the hospital and clinic-exclusive brand ‘Madeca MD.’ Based on this, the company plans to simultaneously expand the Madeca MD product lineup and develop the Madeca Labs brand, focusing on expanding its derma cosmeceutical business through specialized hospital and clinic channels.
