Hugel, a medical aesthetics company, announced Monday the launch of The Chaeum Signature, a new line of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers designed to enhance safety by minimizing the use of crosslinking agents.
The Chaeum Signature is the company’s latest addition to strengthen its HA filler portfolio. The new lineup consists of four products offering a broad spectrum of rheological properties, enabling physicians to select the most suitable formulation based on the treatment area and clinical purpose, the company said.
HA fillers typically undergo crosslinking to stabilize hyaluronic acid, which is otherwise rapidly degraded in the body, into a durable gel.
The Chaeum Signature incorporates MPC (Multi-Purified Crosslinking) technology, a proprietary manufacturing process developed by Hugel’s affiliate, Across. Compared with the company’s conventional process, the technology reduces the amount of crosslinking agent by more than 50 percent while maximizing crosslinking efficiency by employing a specialized process that uses high-concentration HA raw materials.
The fillers also undergo an extended multi-step purification process lasting approximately two weeks — longer than conventional manufacturing procedures — to significantly reduce not only residual BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether), the crosslinking agent, but also microscopic hydrolysis byproducts (BDPE) that may be generated during the crosslinking process.
According to the company, this improves both product safety and quality while maintaining the firm texture and long-lasting effect that characterize its existing The Chaeum Premium filler line despite the reduced use of crosslinking agents.
In addition to The Chaeum Signature, Hugel’s HA filler portfolio includes four The Chaeum Premium products for volumizing applications, as well as The Chaeum Shape, a large-volume body filler.
