Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** This article explores the latest advancements in PLLA and CaHA polymer filler preclinical trials, highlighting the expansion of K-beauty into medical aesthetics. With a focus on quality and safety, the industry is shifting toward skin regeneration and long-term results.

Premium Medical Aesthetic Solutions and Skin Booster Development

Advancing PLLA and CaHA polymer filler preclinical trials and manufacturing facilities.

“We will build a trusted brand based on quality and safety.”

Global interest in K-beauty is expanding beyond cosmetics to skin procedures and medical aesthetics. As demand grows for skin regeneration and long-term effects over simple appearance improvement, the safety and technological prowess of medical aesthetic products are becoming increasingly important.
Chaun Biotech Co., Ltd. is a company developing premium medical aesthetic solutions, including fillers and skin boosters. Currently, it is advancing preclinical trials for PLLA- and CaHA-based polymer fillers and establishing manufacturing facilities, preparing for entry into domestic and international markets.
We met with CEO Park Guk-cheol to discuss the founding background of Chaun Biotech, the direction of polymer filler development, and the outlook for the medical aesthetics market.

Q. Please introduce Chaun Biotech.

Chaun Biotech is a premium medical aesthetic solution developer founded in 2024. Under the slogan ‘Where Science Meets Beauty,’ we develop products prioritizing scientific evidence and safety.
Currently, we develop and produce various fillers and skin boosters, including PDLLA, PLLA, CaHA, pure collagen, hyaluronic acid, PDRN, PN, exosomes, and fat-dissolving solutions.
While operating existing HA filler product lines and regenerative solutions, we are strengthening our polymer filler lineup based on PLLA and CaHA. We are also expanding manufacturing facilities, pursuing domestic approvals, and broadening international certifications.
The company stated that it is expanding its overseas market base centered on the HA filler brand ‘Ceres Fill’ and continuously developing regenerative products such as human and plant-derived exosomes, PN, and PDRN.

Q. What prompted you to start this business?

In 2014, we launched the ‘CERES’ brand through Myungwon International and began the medical aesthetics business in earnest. We then collaborated with various companies for OEM/ODM production and overseas exports, gaining experience primarily in the Chinese and Middle Eastern markets.
Working in the industry for about 10 years, I observed the market shift from HA fillers to polymer fillers like PLLA, PDLLA, and CaHA. Based on accumulated product development experience and overseas networks, my desire to create products with our own technology and brand grew.
Consequently, I founded Chaun Biotech in 2024 to focus on developing polymer fillers and regenerative solutions.

Q. What polymer fillers is Chaun Biotech focusing on?

While hyaluronic acid fillers directly add volume to skin tissue, polymer fillers like PLLA and CaHA work by inducing collagen production in the body. In the medical aesthetics market, these products are sometimes categorized as collagen stimulators or biostimulators.
In the past, HA fillers were the market mainstay, but recently, demand for skin regeneration and long-term changes beyond simple volume improvement has increased interest in polymer materials.
However, as medical devices used directly in the body, they require rigorous safety verification during development, manufacturing, clinical trials, and regulatory approval. Comprehensive evaluation of product properties, particle size, degradation process, and in-vivo reactions makes this a high-difficulty development field.
Chaun Biotech prioritizes developing products with fully verified safety and quality over rapid market entry.

Q. Do you have any new projects in preparation?

We are currently developing PLLA- and CaHA-based polymer filler technology, focusing on preclinical trials and data accumulation. We are also building manufacturing facilities and advancing quality management systems, targeting regulatory approval by 2029.
We are also preparing regenerative complex solutions combining human and plant-derived exosomes, PN, and PDRN. Additionally, we are undertaking premium packaging projects tailored to client brands and market characteristics.
While we may be a latecomer in terms of market entry timing, we believe this allows us to thoroughly review existing products and market cases to enhance safety and quality. Our goal is to build trust through product quality rather than price competition.

Q. How do you view recent changes in the medical aesthetics market?

Recently, interest in ‘regenerative aesthetics’—which aids the skin’s natural recovery and regeneration rather than simply filling volume—has grown. Consequently, the market for products using biomaterials like PLLA and CaHA is gradually expanding.
At the same time, medical device regulations and certification standards are tightening by country, and we must respond to supply chain changes surrounding raw materials and production facilities.
In overseas markets, China presents entry difficulties due to policy and diplomatic variables, but interest in Korean medical aesthetic products is high in the Middle East and South America. However, instability in some Middle Eastern regions can affect export and distribution.
Chaun Biotech, operating a local distribution network in Iraq, has experienced the impact of regional instability. We believe it is necessary to diversify markets across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and South America rather than relying on one region.

Q. What management philosophy do you consider important?

Our management philosophy is ‘Safety, Innovation, and Authenticity.’
As products used directly on the human body, safety must be the top priority. At the same time, we must continuously improve technology and products to provide better results.
In the polymer filler field, competitiveness is determined by multiple factors—raw materials, manufacturing processes, quality control, price, and ease of use—rather than a single technology.
Chaun Biotech aims to earn trust through quality and safety rather than securing customers with low prices alone. Our goal is to create a perception that medical professionals and customers can confidently choose Chaun Biotech products.

Q. Is there anything you wish for from government policy?

Medical aesthetic products require thorough verification as they are used on the human body. However, the time and cost for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop a product and complete clinical trials and regulatory approval are enormous.
The company anticipates significant funding will be needed to prepare clinical trials and approvals for a single polymer filler product. Since substantial sales are difficult before approval, long-term R&D investment is necessary.
We hope the government will expand R&D support and policy financing so that SMEs with technological capability and growth potential do not halt development due to funding shortages during clinical trials and approval processes.
Rather than one-time support, we hope for a long-term support system covering development stages, clinical trials, international certifications, and exports.

Q. What is your ultimate goal?

Our most important goal currently is to stably complete the development of PLLA and CaHA polymer fillers and proceed without disruption with the plan to obtain regulatory approval by 2029.
To this end, we are focusing on preclinical trials, data accumulation, and manufacturing facility advancement. Subsequently, we plan to expand international approvals, including European certification, to prepare for entry into the European and US markets.
Long-term, our goal is for Chaun Biotech’s products and brands to be trusted in the overseas medical aesthetics market. Through continuous R&D and quality management, we will introduce safe and effective products and grow into a medical aesthetics company representing the global K-beauty industry.
