Without professional studies, they promise aesthetic fixes but put patients’ health at risk, warned the president of the College of Aesthetic Medicine of Tabasco, Luis Molina Cantú.

In Tabasco, there is a “black market” of up to 400 injectors, without professional studies, who promise aesthetic fixes but put patients’ health at risk, warned the president of the College of Aesthetic Medicine of Tabasco, Luis Molina Cantú.

He noted that despite cases widely shared on social media of people left with physical sequelae and even deaths caused by the use of dangerous substances, some individuals still turn to clandestine businesses operating in homes or beauty salons without permits from the Ministry of Health.

“The college has 67 member doctors in Tabasco, but there are more than 400 injectors applying products without being doctors,” he warned, then mentioning that a “red flag” to consider is the low prices of services and, mainly, when certifications and professional licenses of those performing the procedures are not visible.
“I have patients who recently injected bovine collagen, which should no longer be used because it causes many reactions; there are also problems with silicone injections in certain areas of the body. It is a concern, there is a black market through all of this,” he emphasized.

Skin lesions, necrosis, and cell death are the main sequelae of “fake” treatments, and for this reason, he insisted on the importance of going to clinics with certified specialists.

“We doctors are surrounded by 8 to 10 people who are misusing these types of procedures and technologies. They might buy equipment from other countries that costs 1% of what a real medical-grade device costs, and they don’t do the same thing. It is dangerous to health and leaves lifelong sequelae,” he concluded.
