Yodobashi Holdings opened “Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Ikebukuro” at the east exit of Ikebukuro Station on June 30. The store spans 6 floors from B1 to the 5th floor, with a sales floor area of approximately 33,000 square meters, making it the largest Yodobashi Camera in the Kanto region. The beauty category is a particular focus. The second-floor sales area, which aggregates beauty appliances, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, boasts a product lineup surpassing that of the previously largest Akihabara store in Kanto and the Umeda store, one of the largest in Japan, effectively making it Yodobashi Camera’s largest beauty sales floor. In 2024, the company had already pre-opened the specialized beauty format “Yodo Bloom.”
Yodobashi Holdings opened the complex facility “Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Ikebukuro,” integrating an electronics retailer and commercial facilities, at the east exit of Ikebukuro Station on June 30. The company acquired the land and building of the massive station building that previously housed Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store in 2023. As the owner, it placed Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store as a tenant in the southern half of the building and opened its own store in the northern half. Yodobashi’s entry attracts attention not only for intensifying the electronics retail competition with nearby Bic Camera and Yamada Denki but also for the aspect of coexistence and co-prosperity with the department store Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store. The full opening is expected within the year.

The large-scale renovation of Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store and the opening of the new Yodobashi Camera store within the same building are events that significantly reshape the retail landscape at the east exit of Ikebukuro Station. In a station-front location once dominated by department stores, a luxury-focused department store and an electronics retailer armed with an overwhelming product lineup now stand side by side. Moreover, the fact that one of the key intersections where both are investing heavily is beauty offers profound insights for considering the future of beauty retail.
