Derma-cosmeceutical Advisory Board Launched

[The Power, Reporter Lee Seol-ah] Dongkook Pharmaceutical is developing a derma-cosmeceutical brand targeting hospital and clinic channels. On the 24th, the company announced the full-scale development of ‘Madeca Labs,’ a medical science-based high-performance skincare brand, in collaboration with a dermatologist advisory board.

Madeca Labs is a hospital and clinic-based skincare brand being developed based on Dongkook Pharmaceutical’s R&D capabilities and dermatologist consultations. The brand aims to launch in the first half of 2027.

The brand will feature high-performance product lines addressing various skin concerns, including skin barrier, sensitive skin, post-procedure home care, and skin condition management. It is specifically designed for hospital and clinic channels, where professionalism and trust are more critical than in the general cosmetics market.

To this end, Dongkook Pharmaceutical held an inaugural ceremony for the Derma-cosmeceutical Advisory Board on June 13, consisting of five dermatologists.

The advisory board includes Dr. Yoon Choon-sik (Yemiwon Dermatology), Dr. Park Ji-ho (Oaro Dermatology), Dr. Park Young-woon (Villard Skin Dermatology), Dr. Lee Mi-hye (Leeone Dermatology), and Dr. Kim Sang-yeop (JF Cell Dermatology).

During the ceremony, Dongkook Pharmaceutical shared its over 50 years of accumulated R&D capabilities in botanical ingredients and its derma-cosmeceutical business strategy. The dermatologists provided clinical perspectives on high-performance skincare solutions suitable for hospital and clinic channels.

Discussions particularly focused on TECA, a key ingredient derived from Centella asiatica. TECA is a quantified extract of Centella asiatica, a core component that Dongkook Pharmaceutical has linked to its Madeca brand assets.

The advisory board exchanged opinions on TECA’s mechanism of action on the skin, formulation development direction, and usage environment. They will also participate in future product development processes, including core ingredient and full ingredient composition, formulation testing, and sensory evaluation.

Dongkook Pharmaceutical has already established a brand foundation in the derma-cosmetic market. It launched the derma-cosmetic brand ‘Centellian24’ in 2015 and has expanded its hospital and clinic-exclusive brand ‘Madeca MD’ lineup.

Madeca Labs is an extension of this trend. The strategy is for Dongkook Pharmaceutical, which has built up consumer derma-cosmetics and hospital/clinic-exclusive product lines, to further expand its high-performance skincare business in specialized hospital and clinic channels.

Dongkook Pharmaceutical plans to concurrently expand the Madeca MD lineup and develop the Madeca Labs brand. Through this, it aims to gradually expand its derma-cosmeceutical business, focusing on specialized hospital and clinic channels.

“Madeca Labs is a high-performance skincare brand developed based on medical and scientific evidence in collaboration with dermatologists,” said a representative from Dongkook Pharmaceutical’s Derma-cosmeceutical Team.
“Based on Dongkook Pharmaceutical’s accumulated Madeca heritage, dermatological research capabilities, and the expertise of dermatologists, we will introduce trustworthy skincare solutions in specialized hospital and clinic channels,” the representative added.
