Korean Society for Laser Dermatology Holds 27th Summer Conference

The paradigm of aesthetic medicine is rapidly changing, and an academic forum focusing on the latest trends in pigmentation treatment was held. The Korean Society for Laser Dermatology held its 27th Summer Conference at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital on the 19th.

The biggest feature of this conference was that it moved beyond ‘pigment removal’ to focus on treatment strategies that improve the overall health and appearance of the skin. While the main goal of treatment was previously the removal of visible pigmented lesions such as melasma and freckles, the treatment paradigm has recently expanded to include improving skin tone, texture, radiance, elasticity, and the skin barrier.

In the free paper session, various presentations reflected this change. Dr. Son Ji-hee of Fave Dermatology Clinic introduced customized treatments combining energy-based devices (EBD) with regenerative therapy, emphasizing the importance of ‘total skincare’ that considers both skin texture and complexion.

“In actual clinical practice, many patients complain not only of simple melasma or freckles but also of skin fatigue, dull complexion, and changes in skin texture,” said Dr. Son. “It is important to comprehensively evaluate skin texture and elasticity, not just visible pigmented lesions, and then apply customized treatment.”

Dr. Son introduced treatment strategies used in actual clinical practice, such as combining vascular pigmentation lasers or radiofrequency devices with hyaluronic acid-based injection therapy. She also emphasized the importance of consulting on lifestyle habits such as sleep, stress, repetitive skin irritation, and home care to enhance treatment efficacy.

“Now, in pigmentation treatment, we must consider skin aging and the inflammatory environment together,” Dr. Son stressed. “In particular, improving skin texture through a combination of energy-based devices and regenerative therapy can help increase patient satisfaction.”
