【South Korea】Enchem Life Sciences Establishes Vertical Integration for PDRN and PN, Targeting Regenerative Medicine Market

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** Enchem Life Sciences is advancing into regenerative medicine by vertically integrating PDRN and PN production from raw material extraction to finished goods, leveraging salmon testes-derived nucleic acid technology to achieve pharmaceutical-grade quality.

Enchem Life Sciences Targets Regenerative Medicine with PDRN and PN Vertical Integration

[PharmNews = Reporter Kim Eung-min] Enchem Life Sciences is building a vertically integrated value chain covering everything from the production of PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) and PN (polynucleotide) raw materials to finished products, based on its high-efficiency nucleic acid extraction technology from salmon testes. Through this, the company plans to secure pharmaceutical-grade quality beyond simple cosmetic purposes and aggressively target the global medical aesthetics and regenerative medicine market.

Global PDRN/PN Market Rapidly Expanding

The global PDRN/PN market is currently valued at approximately USD 7.68 billion (about KRW 10.6 trillion) and is rapidly expanding beyond wound healing and orthopedics into medical aesthetics areas such as skin regeneration, wrinkle improvement, and hair loss management.

Notably, in response to this growing market demand, Enchem Life Sciences is building entry barriers based on two pillars: internalization of manufacturing technology and patent strategy.

Leading Quality Standardization with Molecular Weight Control and Impurity Removal Technology

PDRN/PN are high-molecular-weight raw materials in the DNA fragment family. Beyond the technology for extracting the core substance, purification and concentration technologies that remove residual impurities after processing and homogenize the final raw material are critical.

Enchem Life Sciences has newly established a ‘molecular weight control process’ capable of manufacturing both low-molecular-weight and high-molecular-weight PDRN. By filtering out excessively fragmented or overly aggregated pieces, the company maximizes the uniformity of the final product, optimizing skin applicability and efficacy even within the same formulation.

In particular, the company has advanced its impurity removal technology to effectively control substances unrelated to efficacy, such as cell membranes or protein residues contained in salmon testes.

By excluding the purification processes commonly used in conventional chemical extraction methods, the company has reduced immunogenicity concerns. It has introduced a new purification process aimed at meeting a high-purity standard of a 260/280 ratio of 1.8 to 2.0, an indicator of nucleic acid purity. The company is currently pursuing patent applications for this process and its use in cell regeneration.

Integrating Traditional Korean Medicine and Launching a 3-Track Commercialization Strategy

Enchem Life Sciences is also accelerating the verification of raw material efficacy and diversified commercialization. Through its own cell-based tests, the company has confirmed anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects. It is also collecting trouble care data from Korea, China, and Japan to prepare for Asia market-customized raw material positioning.

The commercialization strategy proceeds on three tracks: B2B raw material supply, development of finished products such as skin boosters, and expansion into functional biomaterials. A notable move is the joint research agreement signed with Namsangcheon Korean Medicine Clinic for the development of functional pharmacopuncture materials based on PDRN and natural products.

“The purpose is to build a standardized functional material platform centered on ingredients, quality, and mechanisms, going beyond the empirical use of existing pharmacopuncture materials,” an Enchem Life Sciences official explained. “We will reinterpret traditional Korean medicine treatment techniques with modern biotechnology to develop them into high-value-added materials with scientific evidence.”
Targeting Pharmaceutical-Grade (DMF-Registered) PDRN and PN Raw Material Supply

Enchem Life Sciences’ ultimate goal is to establish a proactive quality management system (CMC) that can be considered for pharmaceutical raw materials, going beyond the level of cosmetics or medical device raw materials.

The company plans to strictly manage purity, molecular weight distribution, protein impurities, and endotoxins to pharmaceutical standards, securing a quality and process foundation capable of DMF (Drug Master File) registration by 2027. In the short term, it will focus on securing production stability for raw materials applicable to cosmetics and medical devices, and plans to launch five related products within this year.

“We are directly applying the process development and quality management capabilities accumulated in the existing active pharmaceutical ingredient and new drug development fields to the PDRN/PN business,” said an Enchem Life Sciences representative. “We will establish ourselves as a global regenerative biomaterial platform company encompassing both raw materials and finished products.”
