This article highlights Kyungbok University’s recent faculty workshops for its Nursing and Medical Beauty departments, focusing on curriculum innovation and field-oriented talent training to meet evolving healthcare industry demands.
Kyungbok University has held consecutive faculty workshops for its Nursing and Medical Beauty departments, embarking on curriculum innovation and the advancement of a field-customized talent training system.
In response to rapid industrial changes in the healthcare sector, the university aims to strengthen integrated education and interprofessional collaboration capabilities, while expanding practice-oriented education demanded by medical institutions to enhance educational competitiveness.
The College of Nursing at Kyungbok University held a summer faculty competency enhancement workshop on July 14-15, themed “Exploring the Development Direction of Integrated Curriculum and Understanding and Applying Interprofessional Education (IPE).” Faculty members, including Vice President for Nursing and Health Affairs and Dean of the College of Nursing, Yang Soo, intensively discussed the future direction of nursing education and operational plans for an integrated curriculum that enhances connectivity between subjects.
Key agenda items included curriculum reorganization in preparation for the 5th cycle of nursing education accreditation evaluation, and methods for applying IPE in actual educational settings. Based on a case presentation by Professor Park Yeon-cheol of Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine, the workshop shared educational models to enhance collaboration capabilities among healthcare professions and explored directions for nurturing nursing talent suitable for a patient-centered integrated healthcare environment.
The College of Nursing also conducted a workshop titled “Innovation and Growth in Student Competency-Centered Nursing Education” for eight new faculty members. Hosted at the Seoul Industry-Academic Cooperation Base Practice Support Center (SERIN), the session focused on sharing simulation education operations and practice-centered teaching methods to strengthen future-oriented nursing education capabilities.
The Medical Beauty Department held its second-semester faculty workshop on July 15, discussing curriculum advancement and strategies to strengthen hospital employment competitiveness. A total of 20 faculty members, including full-time and adjunct professors led by Department Head Jeong Yeon-seon, participated to review the direction of curriculum operations reflecting changes in the medical field and industry demands.
Notably, the Medical Beauty Department operates its curriculum centered on faculty with practical field experience, including plastic surgery consultation directors, dermatology general managers, hospital marketing experts, and medical skincare specialists. The department’s differentiation strategy lies in subdividing majors into cosmetic surgery and medical skincare, intensively developing the practical competencies required for hospital employment.
Although the two departments’ workshops covered different fields, they shared a common direction of “curriculum innovation” and “strengthening field relevance.” While the Nursing Department focuses on multidisciplinary collaboration and integrated education to respond to future healthcare environment changes, the Medical Beauty Department focuses on enhancing employment competitiveness through practical education that immediately reflects industry demands.
This aligns with the recent trend in the healthcare sector of increasing demand for talent equipped with both job performance capabilities and collaboration skills. Kyungbok University’s simultaneous pursuit of faculty competency enhancement and curriculum reorganization is interpreted as a strategy to proactively respond to this paradigm shift in education.
