[Financial Review = Reporter Kim Hee-yeon] Yonwoo, a subsidiary of Kolmar Korea and a cosmetics packaging specialist, shared global packaging trends and quality response strategies with domestic and international cosmetics companies ahead of the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) implementation.
Yonwoo announced on the 22nd that it held the ‘Yonwoo Packaging Summit: Packaging Megatrends and Global Quality Strategy Seminar’ at Kolmar Korea’s R&D Center on the 21st. This large-scale event, the first of its kind in the industry focusing on cosmetics packaging trends and quality strategies, was attended by approximately 200 representatives from 100 companies, including domestic and international cosmetics brands and ODM/OEM companies.
Since opening its Seongsu-dong showroom ‘Yonwoo Seongsu’ in 2024, Yonwoo has been holding monthly ‘PTR (Packaging Trend Report) Briefing Days.’ The December event last year, in particular, received a positive response from practitioners by presenting new product launch trends and future trends. This time, the company expanded the scale to plan a large-scale seminar covering the entire industry.
The seminar was organized to review this year’s cosmetics packaging trends and respond to the implementation of the EU’s PPWR. The goal was to provide practical insights to participating companies by sharing packaging standards and quality guides for European exports.
PPWR is a packaging regulation that will be directly applied to the 27 EU member states starting August 12th. Its core focuses are designing packaging that is easy to recycle and expanding the use of recycled materials. From 2030, related regulations will be phased in, including a requirement that packaging distributed within the EU must meet recyclability standards.
The event began with an opening address by Yonwoo CEO Park Sang-yong, followed by congratulatory remarks from Kolmar Korea CEO Choi Hyun-kyu and Craver CEO Jeon Hang-il. Subsequently, presentations were given on topics including:
These presentations garnered high interest from the attendees.
Starting with this seminar, Yonwoo plans to regularize trend seminars and quality guide sharing to strengthen ongoing communication with its clients. In particular, it intends to expand collaborative activities with Kolmar Korea to increase synergy in design, formulation, and package development.
A Yonwoo official stated:
Meanwhile, Yonwoo, established in 1983, is a comprehensive cosmetics packaging company. It was the first in Korea to produce cosmetic dispenser pumps and holds the technological capability of being the first to commercialize the ‘airless pump.’
