【Texas, USA】AbbVie Sues Galderma Over Patented Dermal Filler Syringe Designs

Editor’s Note

AbbVie and its Allergan unit have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Galderma, alleging the competitor deliberately copied the design of its Juvéderm dermal filler syringes for Restylane products. The case, filed in Texas, underscores ongoing tensions in the aesthetics market over intellectual property.

AbbVie Inc. and its Allergan Inc. unit have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against competitor Galderma Group AG and Galderma SA, alleging the creation of a similar design for dermal filler syringes.

Allegations of Design Infringement

AbbVie stated in a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas that Galderma and its units “made a calculated decision” to create syringes for Restylane that resemble competing Juvéderm syringes. AbbVie claims Galderma’s syringes infringe US Design Patents Nos. D867,582, D865,948, D866,753, D865,949, and others.

“Galderma and its units made a calculated decision to create syringes for Restylane that look like competing Juvéderm syringes.”

This legal action highlights ongoing intellectual property disputes in the medical aesthetics industry, particularly regarding dermal filler product designs and packaging.
