Combining hiPSC Dermal Papilla Cell Culture with Needle-Free Delivery Technology

JSK BioMed has signed a business agreement with Qustem to jointly develop a needle-free scalp care device. JSK BioMed announced on the 27th that it has partnered with Qustem to co-develop a needle-free scalp care device. The plan is to introduce an integrated solution that delivers Qustem’s highly concentrated dermal papilla cell culture in an optimized manner.

Needle-Free Delivery Technology Combined with Dermal Papilla Cell Culture

JSK BioMed (CEO Jinwoo Jeon), which owns the needle-free drug delivery platform ‘MiraJet,’ signed a business agreement on the 23rd with Qustem (CEO Kiwon Ban), which holds hiPSC (human induced pluripotent stem cell)-based highly concentrated dermal papilla cell culture technology.
The two companies plan to commercialize an integrated solution that develops a new non-medical professional needle-free scalp care device using MiraJet’s needle-free delivery technology and delivers Qustem’s highly concentrated dermal papilla cell culture in an optimized form for this device. They will also develop devices and ampoules tailored for B2B channels targeting specialized institutions such as hospitals and clinics, and B2C channels focused on home care, and jointly conduct tests and evaluations on the local delivery efficiency and absorption characteristics of the needle-free delivery method.

Delivery Technology Determines Efficacy of Bio-Materials

Recently, in the bio-based scalp care market, the importance of delivery technology that enhances the efficacy of highly concentrated bio-materials is growing. Highly concentrated stem cell culture fluid must meet appropriate delivery technology to increase the absorption rate and utilization of active ingredients, making the combination of bio-materials and next-generation devices a new industry trend. Even if active ingredients are formulated at high concentrations, if they are not delivered to the skin layers, they are unlikely to lead to actual efficacy, making delivery technology a key variable in scalp care product development.
This agreement was also prepared in this context, with the two companies combining their respective technologies to produce a high-completeness solution. Its technological prowess has been verified through several SCI-level international journal papers, and recently, it has been expanding its business scope beyond the medical field into professional and consumer markets such as aesthetics and home beauty. The MiraJet platform finely sprays liquid formulations at high pressure to deliver active ingredients into the skin without needles, with compatibility with various formulations cited as a strength.
Under this agreement, JSK BioMed will develop and supply a non-medical professional needle-free scalp care device based on MiraJet, tailored to Qustem’s ampoule specifications, and will also pursue joint promotions using the existing MiraJet customer network of hospitals and clinics.

Qustem’s hiPSC Dermal Papilla Cell Culture Technology

Qustem is a bio-specialized company that has commercialized highly concentrated dermal papilla cell culture by securing the world’s first hiPSC-based dermal papilla cell platform technology. Dermal papilla cells are cells that regulate hair generation and growth and are attracting attention as a key raw material in the scalp care field. Qustem has built R&D capabilities by publishing related research results in international journals and has secured scientific evidence through joint research with major general hospitals such as Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital and Sanggye Paik Hospital.
Under this agreement, Qustem will develop and supply hiPSC-based highly concentrated dermal papilla cell culture ampoules, provide certified data such as clinical trials and papers supporting efficacy, and also handle sales expansion through home shopping and online/offline channels.

“This business agreement will be a meaningful opportunity to expand the technological competitiveness of the MiraJet platform,” said JSK BioMed CEO Jinwoo Jeon. “We will optimize the device structure and delivery conditions according to the characteristics of Qustem’s bio-materials and build a competitive scalp care solution through phased testing and evaluation.”

Meanwhile, with this agreement as a catalyst, the two companies plan to disclose the results of tests and evaluations on the local delivery efficiency and absorption characteristics of the needle-free delivery method through future publications in international journals.
