Brazilian makeup artist and influencer Roseli Fernandes de Oliveira Romeiro Vieira, 48, died on May 26 after undergoing a gluteal augmentation procedure that included the injection of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), a material whose aesthetic use is restricted in Brazil. According to reports from Brazilian media, the content creator began experiencing severe pain one day after receiving the injections. Her daughter stated that Roseli contacted the responsible physician after feeling unwell and was instructed to return to the clinic for evaluation. Security cameras at the facility reportedly captured the influencer arriving unconscious at the office in a vehicle. Due to her condition, staff had to assist her into a wheelchair. Her death was confirmed hours later. Information from Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency indicates that PMMA is only authorized for specific restorative treatments and not for aesthetic purposes. Despite this, the material continues to be used in some body procedures.
The defense of Dr. Tábita Nunes Marcolino Jorge, identified as the practitioner responsible for the procedure, asserted that the death was not related to the injections. In a statement, the doctor's lawyer said she voluntarily appeared before authorities and submitted documentation related to the case. Local media also reported that Roseli Fernandes had invested more than $10,000 in the aesthetic procedure. The investigation continues to determine whether any medical liability exists in the influencer's death.
