The Giza Misdemeanor Court (Agouza Circuit) on Sunday adjourned the trial of a well-known cosmetic surgeon from Mohandessin, accused of causing the death of Israa Karam, known as the 'Helwan Bride,' to June 14 for sentencing. The death occurred after a filler injection at his clinic before her wedding. The victim's family's legal team presented strong arguments, requesting the case be referred back to the public prosecution on grounds that the incident constitutes a felony (aggravated assault leading to death under Article 236 of the Penal Code) rather than a misdemeanor, as the injection of harmful substances caused death, not mere medical negligence.

Central to the case is a forensic report indicating that the filler used was not registered with the Egyptian Drug Authority or the Ministry of Health, and was described as adulterated and harmful, directly causing the death. The defense also argued that the surgeon was not qualified to perform such procedures, the treatment room was not equipped as an operating theater, and no anesthesiologist was present, violating standard medical protocols.

Additionally, the defense challenged the court's jurisdiction, asserting that misdemeanor courts lack subject-matter jurisdiction, which is a matter of public order and can be raised at any stage.

The North Giza Prosecution had previously referred the surgeon to the misdemeanor court on charges of negligently causing the death of engineer Israa Karam.
