Editor's note

This report, sourced from the Sharqia Health Authority and confirmed by Dr. Ahmed El-Baily, signals heightened regulatory enforcement in Egypt's beauty sector. Buyers of cosmetic products and devices should note the seizure of unlicensed items like mesotherapy materials and Botox, posing supply-chain risks. The question remains: will this crackdown expand to other governorates, affecting market access?

The Sharqia Health Authority in Egypt has intensified inspection campaigns on private medical facilities, resulting in the closure and sealing of two beauty and skincare centers in Mestoul El-Souq city during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Dr. Ahmed El-Baily, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Sharqia, announced that the campaign targeted non-governmental medical centers, particularly those offering cosmetic and skincare services.

Inspections at the first center uncovered violations including the seizure of medical supplies, drugs, and materials used for mesotherapy sessions (cosmetic injections for skin and hair), a derma pen device (used for micro-needling to stimulate skin), and botox injection preparations. At the second center, inspectors found unauthorized medical supplies, a skin booster, derma pen needles used in mesotherapy sessions, and skincare products for improving skin radiance and hydration, along with medical prescriptions violating the human medicine practice law.

Mamoud Abdel-Fattah, Director of Media and Public Relations at the Directorate, stated that inspectors from the Therapeutic Freedom Department, along with inspectors from the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Mestoul El-Souq City Council committee, took all necessary legal actions. A health misdemeanor report (No. 3404 of 2026) was filed at the Mestoul El-Souq Police Station, and both centers were closed and sealed.

The Sharqia Health Directorate affirmed its commitment to continuing inspection campaigns across all health facilities, clinics, and private beauty centers in the governorate, vowing zero tolerance for facilities operating in violation of health regulations or without licenses, to protect public health.
