Laser aesthetics and medical device specialist Lameditech (CEO Choi Jong-seok) announced on the 14th that it has obtained a Human Tissue Bank license from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).
With this approval, Lameditech has secured a core foundation for handling, processing, quality control, and distribution of extracellular matrix (ECM) materials derived from human tissue. The company plans to formally advance its ECM-based regenerative medicine materials business as a new growth axis.
ECM, composed of collagen, elastin, and other components, forms the structural basis of human tissue and is gaining attention as a next-generation biomaterial involved in the repair and regeneration of damaged tissue. Human-derived ECM, in particular, offers high biocompatibility and significant potential in tissue regeneration, driving growing interest in the aesthetics and regenerative medicine markets.
Under current regulations, human-derived materials such as ECM are classified as 'human tissue' rather than medical devices. Therefore, a Human Tissue Bank license is required to legally handle, process, manage, and supply such materials. Given the stringent management system required from raw material procurement through quality control to distribution, the license is considered a critical infrastructure for market entry.
Lameditech intends to expand its ECM-based regenerative medicine materials business following this license. The company will collaborate with partners to secure a stable ECM supply chain and plans to broaden its product portfolio targeting the skin aesthetics and regenerative medicine markets.
In particular, Lameditech is advancing the development of a differentiated convergence solution that combines its laser-based drug delivery system (DDS) technology with ECM materials. By using lasers to create microchannels in the skin and then delivering ECM materials, the approach is expected to enhance active ingredient delivery efficiency and treatment outcomes.
A company representative stated: "This Human Tissue Bank license marks a pivotal turning point for Lameditech, expanding beyond our existing laser aesthetics and medical device business into ECM-based regenerative medicine materials. By combining laser DDS technology with ECM biomaterials in a convergence solution, we will secure differentiated competitiveness and create new growth drivers."
