Editor's note

This partnership signals a shift toward vertically integrated, traceable supply chains for cica-based cosmetics, addressing buyer concerns over quality consistency and seasonal supply volatility. The sourcing signal is strong: controlled-environment cultivation and bio-tech processing reduce pesticide and climate risks. Overseas buyers should note the regulatory and sustainability advantages of this model.

South Korean cosmetics OEM/ODM specialist Imi-in has signed strategic MOUs with smart farm operator Plant Farm and bio-materials firm Biosplash to develop and supply cica-based skincare ingredients and finished products. The collaboration targets growing global demand for sensitive-skin and dermocosmetic solutions, offering overseas buyers a vertically integrated, sustainable supply chain from controlled-environment cultivation to OEM/ODM manufacturing.

Partnership structure

Under the agreement signed on June 10 at Plant Farm's headquarters in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, Plant Farm will cultivate centella asiatica (the source of cica) using its vertical smart farm network. Its precision-controlled environment ensures year-round, pesticide-free production with standardized key indicator content, meeting the quality consistency and supply stability required for cosmetic and bio ingredients.

Biosplash will process the harvested centella into cosmetic-grade raw materials using its microbial fermentation and AI-based R&D capabilities. Imi-in will then develop and commercialize finished OEM/ODM skincare products incorporating these ingredients.

Market signal

Global skincare demand for cica-based products continues to rise, driven by the expansion of sensitive-skin care and dermocosmetics. Centella asiatica is known for its skin-soothing and barrier-strengthening properties. This partnership positions Imi-in to offer differentiated K-beauty raw materials and finished goods that align with this trend.

Sourcing context

Plant Farm operates one of South Korea's largest vertical smart farm networks, with cultivation recipes for over 110 crops. It is expanding beyond European salads into high-value functional ingredient crops. Biosplash, founded in 2018, specializes in bio-based ingredients including natural retinol and peptides via microbial fermentation, and recently completed development of a yeast-fermented retinol.

What buyers should watch

Overseas importers, distributors, and clinic buyers seeking consistent, traceable cica raw materials or finished ODM products can now access a fully integrated value chain. The partnership ensures stable supply regardless of season or climate, with standardized quality and no pesticide residues. Imi-in's ODM capabilities can tailor products for global brand clients, leveraging the green bio convergence model for sustainable sourcing.
