Editor's note

This dispatch signals rising Chinese institutional demand for Korean aesthetic devices, with a provincial medical delegation from Jilin engaging in hands-on training and business matching. Buyers should note the MOU between Seongnam and Jilin’s plastic surgery association, which may open bulk procurement channels. Regulatory questions around cross-border device approvals remain a key supply-chain risk to watch.

The Seongnam Regional K-Medical Device Education and Training Center has completed its third KAT (K-beauty Advanced skill Training workshop) program, this time in partnership with China's Jilin Province. The event, held June 9-11, brought 29 medical professionals and government officials from Jilin to South Korea for hands-on training and business matching, signaling growing cross-border demand for Korean aesthetic devices and consumables among Chinese buyers.

Program expansion and strategic location

The KAT workshop, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea Health Industry Development Institute, Seongnam City, and co-hosted by multiple Korean and Chinese institutions, marks the first large-scale Korea-China collaboration under this initiative. Jilin Province, a key region in Northeast China including Changchun and border areas, is actively developing its medical and bio industries amid rising tourism. The program previously ran in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Shenyang, China, in May.

Hands-on clinical training with Korean devices

On day two, participants received cadaver training at Catholic University's International Surgical Skills Education Center and patient-based demonstrations at Pascal Clinic in Gangnam. Procedures included lower eyelid fat repositioning, thread lifting, and auto-injector techniques. Devices used included Pascal Korea's GASI sutures, Humedix's Elravie fillers, and MediHub's I-Ject digital injectors, giving Chinese clinicians direct experience with Korean-made aesthetic consumables.

Business matching and MOU signing

The first day featured a Korea-China Medical Aesthetics Industry Exchange at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital's Healthcare Innovation Park. Eleven Korean device companies—including Pharmaresearch, Huons Meditech, Ikleo, Hugel, Amaros, Meta Pharma, Airi, Woori Medical, J&L, Tula, and MediHub—presented products and discussed China market entry. An MOU was signed between Seongnam Industrial Promotion Agency and Jilin Provincial Plastic Surgery Association to formalize future cooperation.

What buyers should watch

This event highlights growing Chinese institutional interest in Korean aesthetic devices and training. The involvement of Jilin's government and hospital networks, including 30-plus hospital chains like Mingyi Medical Aesthetic Hospital Group, suggests potential for bulk procurement and distribution partnerships. Korean manufacturers seeking China market access should monitor follow-up programs and consider direct engagement with provincial-level buyers.

Sourcing context

The Seongnam training center is Korea's first central government-local government joint project, funded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Seongnam City, aimed at boosting overseas recognition of Korean medical devices. The KAT brand is positioned as a recurring platform for foreign clinician education and device demonstration, which may serve as a reliable channel for distributors to evaluate and source Korean aesthetic products.
