Editor's note

This partnership, sourced from Sewha Bio's official announcement, signals a strategic shift to multi-branding in China's filler market. Buyers should note the potential for more tailored pricing and positioning across clinic tiers, while the five-year supply deal with UPS BIO mitigates supply-chain risk. The regulatory question remains whether the existing NMPA approval for the HA filler extends seamlessly to the new 'Eloyan' brand.

South Korean regenerative medicine company Sewha Bio has signed a five-year supply agreement with Chinese medical aesthetics firm UPS BIO to launch a new hyaluronic acid (HA) filler brand 'Eloyan' in China. This move expands Sewha Bio's multi-brand strategy beyond its existing 'GISELLELIGNE' brand, targeting a market segment that demands localized brand portfolios for different regions and distribution channels. The partnership aims to achieve approximately KRW 30 billion in brand sales over five years.

Strategic partnership details

Sewha Bio (CEO Yoo Hyun-seung) recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Zhejiang Ups Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (UPS BIO), a Chinese medical aesthetics specialist, for the supply of HA filler products and the launch of the new brand 'Eloyan'. This marks Sewha Bio's second HA filler brand in China, following 'GISELLELIGNE', and represents the company's first formal step into a multi-brand strategy in the Chinese market.

Market rationale

China's medical aesthetics market shows significant variation in consumer preferences across regions and distribution channels, making a multi-brand segmentation strategy critical. Sewha Bio plans to leverage its market experience and product competitiveness from the existing brand to target diverse consumer groups with the new brand. The company aims to build a tailored brand portfolio optimized for regional and channel-specific demands.

Partner capabilities

UPS BIO specializes in nurturing and distributing global medical aesthetic products, with a strong network of medical aesthetics hospitals in China and KOL (Key Opinion Leader)-based marketing capabilities. The company has successfully introduced HA filler and PN (Polynucleotide) skin booster products from South Korea and Germany into the Chinese market, demonstrating its expertise in local market entry.

Product and regulatory background

The HA filler supplied under this agreement received approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in 2019 and has been marketed under the 'GISELLELIGNE' brand. Based on the proven market performance and safety of the existing brand, Sewha Bio will introduce 'Eloyan' to further differentiate its product lineup.

What buyers should watch

Importers and distributors in China should note that Sewha Bio's multi-brand approach may offer more flexible pricing and positioning options for different clinic tiers and regional markets. The five-year supply commitment and UPS BIO's established distribution network suggest stable product availability and marketing support. Buyers evaluating HA filler portfolios may consider 'Eloyan' as a complementary option to existing brands, particularly for clinics targeting specific consumer segments.

Executive comment

"In China's medical aesthetics market, product quality alone is not enough; brand strategy and local partnerships are key success factors," said Sewha Bio CEO Yoo Hyun-seung. "Based on our experience with GISELLELIGNE, we will strengthen our multi-brand strategy and build a brand portfolio optimized for regional and channel characteristics to enhance market competitiveness." He added, "Through cooperation with UPS BIO, we will drive the successful market entry of the new brand Eloyan and accelerate the expansion of our regenerative medicine-based aesthetics portfolio in China and global markets."
