Editor's note

This launch signals a new Korean supplier with marine-sourced, mass-premium skincare. Buyers should note the dual-track strategy leveraging Aekyung Industrial’s proven export capabilities, though the brand’s initial DTC focus may delay international partnership opportunities.

Taekwang Industrial has entered the beauty market with its first in-house brand SAFIN, under its newly established cosmetics subsidiary SIL. The move signals a dual-track strategy: leveraging Aekyung Industrial for stable manufacturing and distribution, while using SIL as an experimental hub for brand innovation. For overseas buyers, this marks a new Korean supplier offering marine-sourced, high-performance skincare targeting the mass-premium segment.

Brand positioning and target market

SAFIN is positioned as a mass-premium skincare brand for women aged 30 to 40, a demographic seeking both functional efficacy and refined brand experience. SIL CEO Kim Jin-sook emphasized that skincare accounts for over 60% of the cosmetics market, making it the logical entry point. The brand aims to establish recognition in the mass-premium space this year, differentiating itself through ingredients derived from Korean seas.

Core ingredient: Reverse Marine

SAFIN's key differentiator is its proprietary ingredient Reverse Marine, a complex combining deep sea water from the East Sea, kelp from the South Sea, and mud from the West Sea. Kim noted that while K-beauty has extensively used land-based ingredients like houttuynia cordata and centella asiatica, marine-sourced ingredients remain underexplored. The brand focuses on skin recovery and regeneration.

Product lineup and pricing

Initial products include three Skin Reverse Signature items, three Skin Reverse Ampoules, and three Skin Reverse Aging Zone Care Patches. Prices range from approximately KRW 30,000 to 40,000, with creams under KRW 50,000. This pricing places SAFIN in the mass-premium tier, accessible yet positioned above basic drugstore brands.

Distribution and development strategy

SAFIN will initially sell through its own online mall and Naver Smart Store, prioritizing direct-to-consumer sales to build brand identity and gather customer feedback before expanding to offline channels. The brand will not rush into large retail chains. For product development, SIL adopts a "Connect and Develop" strategy, leveraging Korea's advanced ODM infrastructure rather than building its own R&D center.

What buyers should watch

For overseas importers and distributors, SAFIN represents a new Korean brand with a clear marine-sourced positioning and a parent company with deep industrial resources. The brand's initial focus on DTC means it may seek international partners only after establishing domestic traction. However, its connection to Aekyung Industrial—a major manufacturer with proven export capabilities—suggests potential for future B2B collaboration. Buyers should monitor SAFIN's domestic performance and eventual channel expansion plans.
