Editor's note

This expansion, backed by U.S. BARDA funding, signals a strengthened domestic supply chain for injectable drug vials. For overseas buyers, it means greater availability of FIOLAX and EVERIC pure vials from a key North American hub, reducing sourcing risk. The regulatory question remains how this capacity will impact global pricing and trade flows.

SCHOTT Pharma USA has completed a major expansion of its South Lebanon Township, Pennsylvania facility, tripling manufacturing capacity for high-quality standard and sterile ready-to-use vials. The $60 million project, partly funded by the U.S. BARDA, strengthens the supply chain for injectable drug containment solutions, including specialty vials for biologics, vaccines, and emergency medicines. For overseas distributors and clinic buyers, this signals increased availability of FIOLAX borosilicate glass vials and EVERIC pure vials from a key North American hub.

Expansion details

The three-year modernization project, celebrated on June 3 with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, adds new production lines and state-of-the-art technology. The facility, operational since 2003, now triples its output of core and specialty vials made from FIOLAX borosilicate glass. SCHOTT Pharma USA President Christopher Cassidy said the expansion "triples the plant's manufacturing capacity for high-quality standard and sterile ready-to-use vials." The site is one of only two SCHOTT Pharma locations worldwide capable of producing EVERIC pure vials.

Supply chain relevance

SCHOTT Pharma's vials are critical for storing emergency medicines, complex biologics, vaccines, and other injectable therapies. The company notes that every minute, over 30,000 people worldwide receive an injection from a SCHOTT Pharma container. The expansion ensures a more robust supply of drug containment solutions for the injectable drug market, which is vital for medical aesthetics clinics that rely on sterile, high-quality vials for injectables.

Regulatory and channel signals

The project received more than $60 million in investment, largely funded by the U.S. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), underscoring government support for domestic pharmaceutical packaging infrastructure. SCHOTT Pharma USA generated an estimated $1.1 billion in global revenue in 2025 from its two Pennsylvania facilities, supporting over 350 jobs. Governor Shapiro highlighted that "half of all vaccines in arms across this country come from a manufacturing facility right here in Pennsylvania, many of which SCHOTT supports."

Sourcing context

For overseas importers and distributors, the expanded capacity means greater availability of FIOLAX borosilicate glass vials and EVERIC pure vials from a reliable North American source. The facility employs over 220 workers, and Cassidy indicated continued hiring as market demand grows. This expansion positions SCHOTT Pharma to meet increasing global demand for injectable drug packaging, a key consideration for buyers sourcing containment solutions for aesthetic injectables and other pharmaceuticals.
